AS MEDIA STUDIES
Representation
My group: Jason Centeno, Romans Felix, Reynold Machado, Jeremiah Chery
In this presentation we answered the following questions:
-
What representations and stereotypes have been constructed?
-
What technical decisions have producers made to construct the above representations/stereotypes (think about what you learned about how a movie is made... zoom, pan, camera angles, etc.,)
-
Have any counter stereotypes been used?
-
What viewpoints have been reinforced or challenged?
-
How has the audience been positioned to interpret the movie/TV show?
-
What is the preferred or dominant reading the producer wants the audience to make (the way media producers want the audience to interpret the movie/tv show. This type of reading is culturally dependent)?
-
Who produced, created the movie/TV show?
-
What judgements and conclusions can you make about the construction of representations in the media?
-
Why have producers made an active decision to construct these representations? (Is it to sway your opinion? Is it to make people aware? ....)
